The National Weather Service has been issuing watches and warnings as a cold front pushes line of severe storms into the greater New Orleans area.

"Remain alert for a possible tornado!" forecasters in the New Orleans office of the National Weather service warned. "Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms."

All of Southeast Louisiana is under a Tornado Watch until 3:00pm.

"If you spot a tornado... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building."

As the first line moved into the area, federal forecasters said we could also see street flooding.

"Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways."

Wind gusts just after 10:00am were clocked at 60 miles per hour.

"Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees," the Weather Service advised.

There is expected to a break between the two lines of potentially severe storms.
