UNO students start the fall semester online

Online classes begin today for students at University of New Orleans.

Beginning August 19 through 28, classes will be online only. UNO will offer three teaching methods; Face-to-Face, Online and Hybrid methods. There will be no fall break in October. From November 19 to the end of the fall semester all classes will be online. Thanksgiving break will go as planned from November 25 – 27. Classes will conclude remotely on December 2. Final exams will be online only from December 5-10.

The university says it will follow strict CDC guidelines for students and staff. The university will also shift more towards utilizing technology and virtual/remote learning. All face-to-face meetings will require a face covering and social distancing.

“This will be unlike any fall semester any of us have experienced,” UNO President Dr. John Nicklow siad in a video message to students posted on Facebook. “Much will be different but what hasn’t changed is our dedication to our students and their persut of a UNO degree.”

Below is a set of guidelines for UNO students:

Campus Access

  • Access to campus will be limited to members of the campus community and partners. Students can learn more about campus access point in the university’s FAQ.

Classes

  • Course offerings for this fall haven’t changed, but there are significantly expanded virtual/remote options. Students can create a course schedule reflecting face-to-face, online and hybrid class formats to meet their learning, family, and work needs.

Academic Support

  • Tutoring and supplemental instruction will be available both on campus and online. The library will be open with access to computers and tablets, WiFi and on-campus resources for students. Support for online learning will also be provided.

Healthy Reminders

  • Regularly clean hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer for 20 seconds
  • Sneeze or cough into the inside of your elbow or into a tissue
  • Be aware daily of any emerging COVID-19 symptoms

Facial Coverings

  • Anyone accessing campus is required to wear a mask or face covering in all shared indoor spaces. We suggest bringing your own face coverings, but they are also available at the bookstore and in vending machines in the library.

If You Feel Sick

  • Stay home and consult your health care provider. If you are feel sick while on campus, call Ochsner Health Clinic - UNO to consult and leave campus. If you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, please inform Student Affairs. Let your instructors know if you need to miss class.

Campus food service will be available through limited seating in dining halls and take-out service. UNO’s mailroom and UNO Federal Credit Union will operate under normal business hours.

Campus rooms, indoor venues, and the school’s library will be open, but in limited capacity. UNO Recreation and Fitness Center will also open, but will follow strict CDC COVID-19 rules and limited capacity. For more information click here.
