Some Uptown residents have been without water since early Friday morning.
But, Sewerage and Water Board officials offered a glimmer of hope Saturday.
"The repairs are going well," said S&WB Communications Director Richard Rainey. "They should be completed soon. Testing is underway for the Boil Water Advisory. The samples are in the lab and we should have the first batch of results, hopefully, later this afternoon or early evening. And, if all goes well, we'll be able to lift the Boil Water Advisory."
Water testing procedures take about 24 hours to come back negative and have the precautionary water boil lifted.
Rainey said Saturday's showers, heavy at times, have not further complicated matters.
"The drainage system is working fine with Saturday's rain. It's handling the rain load. Anyone with street flooding problems should go to NOLAready on Twitter or call 52-WATER."
Officials also said crews found the source of the break in a 114-year-old pipe that caused both street flooding and the advisory.
The advisory has been in effect for a section of Uptown New Orleans, from Napoleon to Carrollton and Claiborne to the River.
