Wall Street week ends with sharp gains, oil skid stopped

It was volatile week on Wall Street, but the stock market closed it out with sharp gains in the Friday session in the wake of a modestly positive September jobs report.

The Dow Jones Industrials rallied 372 points today,and the Nasdaq Composite rose 110.

Crude oil prices tumbled about 5½ percent this week, but the front-month contract today did manage to snap an 8-session skid.  November crude finished with a gain of 36 cents … settling at $52.81 a barrel. 

BP today said CEO Bob Dudley, who oversaw the energy giant's response to and recovery from the devastating Gulf of Mexico 2010 oil spill disaster, will step down next year, wrapping up a 40-year career.   

Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana are partnering to expand housing for families visiting children being treated in New Orleans.  A news release says a $6 million renovationof two buildings on the hospital’s Uptown campus is planned.
