After No. 2 LSU’s 46-41 win at Alabama Saturday night, Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron had a message for his Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Joe Burrow.

Orgeron let reporters in on that conversation.

“I’m glad we went to Mike Anderson’s and ate crawfish that night and he decided to come (to LSU),” Orgeron said with a laugh.

Burrow transferred from Ohio State prior to last season and earlier in the week, Orgeron called his quarterback one of the top-five recruits in program history.  The Ohio native showed why Saturday night with a 393-yard, three-touchdown performance in the win against Alabama.

Those numbers affirmed Burrow’s Heisman candidacy, but the quarterback said after the game he was more concerned with winning games.

“Obviously, growing up, you watch the ceremony. You watch how much it means to people. You grow up wanting to win that award,” he said. “But then, when I got to college, I realized that team success breeds all the individual awards and that’s all that’s ever mattered to me — winning games.

“When my stats weren’t great last year and we were winning games I said the same thing and Im going to say the same thing this year.”

The Tigers are now 9-0 on the season and now 19-3 with Burrow as the starter, after picking up their first win against the Crimson Tide since 2011.

Immediately after the victory, Burrow was quick to remind his team about that the season was not over.

“One thing I want to make sure that we know is this wasn’t our goal this year,” Burrow said. “We got more goals ahead of us. We didn’t go into the season saying we’re going to beat Alabama. We got more things ahead of us.”

The Tigers are now the first in the SEC West and will likely play in the SEC championship Game, and are in position for a high-seed in the College Football Playoff.

"I told the team there will be bigger games when we beat Alabama," Orgeron said. "There will be bigger games down the road."
