New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees made his first start since Week 2 Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals.
And the NFL’s all-time leading passer got right back to doing what he does, completing passes.
Brees completed six of his first seven passes for 45 yards en route to a 31-9 Saints win against the Arizona Cardinals in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Brees threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns as the Saints picked up their sixth-straight victory.
Brees completed 34 passes to nine different receivers including the NFL leading receiver Michael Thomas, who caught 11 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown.
The Cardinals took a 3-0 nothing lead into the second quarter, after 31-yard Zane Gonzalez field goal.
But the Saints were able to get on the board in the second quarter, after Wil Lutz capped a 12-play, 68-yard drive with a 26-yard field goal.
New Orleans took a 10-3 lead later in the second, when Latavius Murray capped a seven-play, 71-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown run.
Arizona added another field goal later in the second to make it 10-6.
The Saints appeared to score another touchdown with time expiring before the half, but tackle Terron Armstead was flagged for holding.
New Orleans stretched their lead in the third, when Brees connected with Murray for a 15-yard touchdown with 5:33 to play in the frame.
Murray rushed for 102 yards and caught nine passes for 55 yards, scoring twice.
Arizona was able to narrow the lead 17-9 after another Gonzalez field goal.
But the Saints put the game out of reach in the fourth, when Brees threw touchdown passes to Taysom Hill and Michael Thomas.
Teddy Bridgewater, who went 5-0 as the Saints starter in Brees absence, checked in late in the fourth quarter to massive cheers from the Superdome crowd and was able seal the game with a clock killing drive
