In another big step towards the NFL’s 2020 season, the Saints finally put on full-pads for the first time yesterday, as this year’s training camp has featured a more extended ramp-up period than years past.
The “Voice of the Saints” Zach Strief was in attendance, and he said one player whose production could really help the Fleur De Lis D looked very strong on the first real day of the new year where he could truly show off.
They’re as far away as they can be from where I am. But I’m looking in my binoculars and I kinda just catch a guy whose head flies back. He’s backpedaling. He kinda puts his hand in the ground to keep himself from falling down. And I say who in the world is that? Oh, that’s Carl Granderson. What in the world are they doing?
They line up again, and Marcus Davenport did it to him a second time. I mean, you talk about a pop coming out of a stance. And you think maybe the first time you get a guy sleeping. Right? You see a guy holding back, and then boom! He gets hit and he thinks, OK. I gotta anchor down a little bit. The second time, to do it again is pretty impressive. And he almost knocked him down again. So I thought Davenport was really good, super-explosive.
My opinion of Marcus Davenport has been sky-high for a couple of years now. I think he’s poised to have a really, really good season. For him, it’s just about staying healthy.
