It sure feels like the NFL MVP award should just be renamed MVQB. The quarterback position has taken it 11 of the last 12 years. But, there are two worthy suitors for this season’s title who are a wide receiver and running back.
Fans in the Superdome should get their money’s worth Sunday with superior talents Michael Thomas and Christian McCaffey putting on a show in an always spicy NFC South showdown between the Saints & Panthers.
Can’t Guard Mike has been doing things nobody else has. The record-setter became the fastest wide receiver to reach 90 receptions in a season last week. Thomas has 94 catches for 1,141 yards thru 10 games and is on pace to break the single-season record for receptions of 143, set by Marvin Harrison in 2002.

If Can’t Guard Mike happens to go this entire season without dropping a pass AND break’s Harrison’s record; how could he not be the league MVP?
Now, the only thing that could hurt McCaffery’s bid is possibly not playing on a winning team. The 5ft11, 201 pound back can make NFL defenses look like high schoolers. He leads the NFL in rushing yards with 1,059, averaging 5.3 yards a carry. McCaffery also has 73 receptions for 517 yards and 14 trips to the endzone. EA Sports just boosted his ranking in their Madden video game to 99. The 23-year-old became the youngest player to join the “99 Club after starting as a 91 when the game first came out.
