Even your neighborhood babysitter isn’t immune to inflation.

A new report from UrbanSItter has found that the cost of babysitters rose 11% in 2021!

The pandemic put a huge damper on the babysitting business, as no one had any need for one because nobody left their homes.  The business dropped about 85% during the height of the pandemic, but it appears that it has bounced back in full force.

Lynn Perkins, chief executive officer of UrbanSitter, told Today “Over the past two years [we’ve seen] a big increase in nurses, teachers [and] early childhood education specialists leaving those roles.  As they’re coming into the child care field and working for families one on one, they’re able to charge a much higher rate because they’re bringing this set of skills with them.”

The average national hourly rate for babysitting one kid is now $20.57, with an average of $23.25 an hour for two kids and $24.35 an hour for three.

New York City has the highest average rates at $23.45 an hour for one child, followed by the San Francisco Bay area at $23.32 and Seattle at $21.23.
