You know how 99.99 percent of NFL fans hate the new taunting rules that have been enforced in seemingly unnecessary situations? I think we may have found the 0.01 percent of fans that support taunting.
That's because, according to TMZ, three FCC complaints were filed after former Giants quarterback Eli Manning recounted a story about young Eagles fans who flipped him off and showed us the gesture to enhance the story. He later apologized for doing so — and has been mocked by Peyton as a reminder in later iterations of the Manningcast — but that didn't stop these
Two of the complaints, perhaps unsurprisingly, seemed to come from the general Philadelphia area — one from West Chester, and one from someone who called themselves a "Philadelphia native and sports fan." Here are some of the highlights, as provided by TMZ:
— "...Profane gestures that were despicable and unacceptable and fines should be levied... Young Americans should never be exposed to something like that, it was disgusting."
— "...Offensive to me as a viewer. It was also offensive as a Philadelphia native and sports fan. There was young children watching that broadcast..."
— One fan "went as far as to demand Eli get banned from the airwaves."
Wow. All that for a couple of upturned middle fingers — ones that Eli said were given to him by young Eagles fans. Tough crowd!
We've also had a potentially drunken F-bomb from the one and only Marshawn Lynch, but there's no news as to whether or not that one received the same attention as Eli's "despicable" gesture.
The Manningcast took some time off for Week 9, and that's probably a good thing for whichever active NFL players was planning on appearing as a guest this time around. Josh Allen was the latest victim of the Manning curse, and it's gotten to the point where we're actually thinking that the curse is a real thing.
