The case against LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers will not be prosecuted after his arrest in New Orleans, according to court records.
Nabers was arrested on Bourbon Street Monday evening after an officer in the area identified what appeared to be a weapon in his pocket, according to a report from WBRZ. Prior to being searched he told the officer he did not have a concealed carry permit.
Nabers, 19, was booked for illegal carrying of a weapon but had been released by Tuesday on his own recognizance.
The charge of illegally carrying weapons has been refused, according to court records, "with the condition that the defendant not get his gun returned to him." According to Mayor LaToya Cantrell, as of Feb. 20 New Orleans police had confiscated more than 100 guns located near parade routes throughout Carnival season.
Nabers, a native of Youngsville, Louisiana, is entering his junior season with LSU and is expected to be among their top options at WR heading into the 2023 season. There has not yet been an official statement from the program regarding the incident. It's possible that Nabers faces discipline from LSU despite the legal situation appearing to be resolved.
