One of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal committed to Texas Tech on Sunday night. Brendan Sorsby, a dual-threat quarterback who put up good numbers at Cincinnati, chose Texas Tech after visiting both Texas Tech and LSU.

Sorsby’s decision to go to Texas Tech is not a surprise. Many college football analysts pegged Sorbsy to the Red Raiders as he is a Texas native who played his high school football at Lake Dallas High School.

It’s also likely that Texas Tech was able to offer a better NIL package.

But all is not lost for LSU. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt will visit LSU Monday morning. Leavitt has already visited Kentucky and was planning to visit Texas Tech, but there is no longer a need for him to fly to Lubbock.

Leavitt has two years of eligibility left, but will likely not be available for spring practice because of a foot injury.

Leavitt started his college career at Michigan State and transferred to ASU after one season in East Lansing, Michigan.

As a redshirt freshman, Leavitt threw for 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns. Leavitt also had five rushing touchdowns.

He only played in seven games in 2025 due to a foot injury, but still put up good numbers, completing 61% of his passes for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions.

LSU does not have a scholarship quarterback on its roster. The last one left, Michael Van Buren, entered the transfer portal over the weekend.

The Tigers need to move quickly on a QB1 as some of the top ones in the portal have already made their decision.

Drew Mestemaker from North Texas is heading to Oklahoma State. Indiana has found its replacement for Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza, as TCU’s Josh Hoover has committed to Indiana.

Also, pessimism is growing Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss will get a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA. It seemed like a given Chambliss would follow Kiffin to LSU, but his eligibility issues and the Rebels' run through the postseason have lowered the chances considerably that Chambliss will end up at LSU.

On Sunday, LSU secured its first commitment out of the transfer portal, and that is former Hawaii receiver Jackson Harris, who earned first-team All-Mountain West honors in 2025.

The former four-star recruit out of Berkeley, California, caught 49 passes for 963 yards and 12 touchdowns. He only had six catches in his first two seasons of college ball at Stanford.

Harris is a big-play receiver as he averaged nearly 20 yards a catch and had 12 touchdown grabs. He had six 100-yard games in his last seven games at Hawaii.

However, LSU lost another receiver to the transfer portal as former Edna Karr standout Ta’Ron Francis got into the portal on Sunday.

Francis did not record a catch in his one season at LSU.
