“It's a great opportunity for him and for the Saints.”
That was the first thing Bobby Hebert had to say about the Saints trade for linebacker Kwon Alexander. “He just needs to stay healthy. His biggest problem in San Francisco was not being healthy, so hopefully that isn't an issue here. But I also don't know how healthy Kiko Alonso will be going forward.”
The Saints are reportedly sending linebacker Kiko Alonso and a conditional 5th round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for Alexander.
Alexander, a 7th round draft pick for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015, has only played a full 16 game season once, back in 2016. He played in 12 games in 2017, 6 games in 2018, and 8 games in 2019. This season, Alexander played in the first 5 games before a high-ankle sprain sidelined him the past three weeks.
“Alexander was a tackling machine,” Hebert said. “We're all familiar with him from his time at LSU. He's one of those hybrid guys. And we just have to get better linebacker play.
“Demario Davis is playing well, but he's not playing at an All-Pro level like he was last year. Alex Anzalone has just been okay; he hasn't really been a difference-maker. Bring in more competition, and bring in some youth.”
