The New Orleans Saints were active on cutdown day, but a handful of decisions were made for them by injuries as they trimmed the roster down to 80 players.

Three players were sent to injured reserve, two of whom were visibly injured during Monday's preseason win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Brian Poole and Ethan Greenidge.

The biggest surprise came in the form of defensive tackle Jalen Dalton, who was is now done for the season after reportedly suffering a torn triceps that requires surgery. Dalton finished the game with the injury and showed no sign of it when he addressed the media afterward. Dalton logged a sack, another QB hit and a pass defensed, and appeared to be in good position to make the final roster at a much-needed position.

Here are the Saints' roster moves for today:

- LB Marcus Willoughby, waived with injury designation
- P Nolan Cooney, waived
- DT Jalen Dalton, injured reserve (torn triceps)*
- OL Ethan Greenidge, injured reserve*
- Brian Poole, injured reserve*
*Yet to be officially announced

The Saints had held two punters through camp, but opted to shed the UDFA Cooney ahead of the final cutdown to 53 next week. Cooney handled kickoffs against the Jaguars. Linebacker Marcus WIlloughby was also waived with an injury designation.

The Saints are next in action on a short week when they host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 of the preseason. It's likely many starters will be inactive for that game, after which the team will need to shed a much larger number of players to get to 53 players ahead Tuesday's deadline.
