The city of New Orleans last week began enforcing its new requirement to confirm vaccination status or show a negative test before visitors are allowed in certain businesses, but Monday marks the first time fans will have to do that before entering the Caesars Superdome.
The new rules were announced earlier in August, aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19. The virus has surged in recent weeks, spurred by the Delta Variant.
There will be no capacity limit for the game, though it remains to be seen just how big the crowd will be for the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Throughout the 2020 season fans were capped at about 5,000 at the most, along with family and friends.
So how will the process go at the Dome on Monday?
Here are some details:
WHEN GATES WILL OPEN
One vaccination/PCR test checkpoint will open at 4 p.m. at Ground Level Gate A, which is used for patrons in ADA, suite and end zone club seating.
All remaining vaccination checkpoints will open at 5 p.m., a bit over two hours before kickoff.
WHAT'S REQUIRED
All fans age 12 and older must show evidence they've received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine that's received approval and authorization from the U.S Food and Drug Administration. In most cases that will be either Pfizer or Moderna.
OR
Documentation showing a negative COVID-19 PCR test that was taken within the prior 72 hours. For example: If you are entering the Superdome at 5 p.m. on Monday, the PCR test must've have been taken at any point after 5 p.m. on the previous Friday.
WHAT CAN BE USED FOR VERIFICATION?
The most efficient way to verify vaccine status would be by using the LA Wallet app, which features a COVID-19 tab. When set up, the app will show a QR code that can be scanned, a green image with a checkmark that shows you have received the vaccine along with the date you received the final dose.
Fans seeking to enter the Superdome can also show:
- An original, digital photo or photocopy (both sides) of your CDC vaccination card
- An official vaccination record issued by another state, nation or WHO
- A negative PCR test taken within the past 72 hours
WHERE WILL THE CHECKPOINTS BE?

In short, everywhere.
Fans won’t be able to gain entry to the Superdome or Champion’s Square without passing through such a checkpoint. Should fans leave the building, they will have to verify their vaccine status again before re-entering. That can be done at:
- All entrances, stairs and ramps on the exterior plaza level
- Both sides of the ground level Gate A ramp on Poydras Street leading to the plaza level
- Both entrances to Champions Square (Poydras and Girod)
- East and West Bunker Club guests will be checked prior to entering; guests will use normal game-day entrances in the ground levelvax garages for Gates C & G
OTHER THINGS TO KNOW
Cash will not be accepted for purchases within the Caesars Superdome. That will include all concessions stands, merchandise and parking.
Cash can be converted to prepaid VISA cards in denominations of $25 and $50 at multiple locations throughout the stadium:
- 100 plaza level (Gates A, C & G)
- 200 loge/club level (Gates A, C & G)
- 500 terrace level (Gates A, C & G)
There will be no fee charged for converting cash to prepaid cards.
