Marshon Lattimore battled injury as he helped the Saints defense completely stump the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, and afterward the team showed him the money.
The star cornerback has agreed to a 5-year, $97.6 million extension, according to a report from Ian Rapaport of the NFL Network. The deal included $44 million guaranteed, the most-ever for a defensive back in NFL history.
The news wasn't particularly surprising, as it was reported the Saints and Lattimore were in the process of working out a deal earlier in the day. The cornerback entered the season on a 5th-year option, which was restructured to open up cap space before the season. He was listed as questionable entering the game with a knee injury, but played in the first half as the Saints defense dominated. He didn't start the second half and was seen getting his hand wrapped up on the sideline.
He's the latest member of the Saints' 2017 draft class to sign a big-money contract, with right tackle Ryan Ramczyk inking a monster deal in the offseason to become the highest-paid at his position. Alvin Kamara signed a massive extension before last season, while Trey Hendrickson landed a huge deal in free agency. The only member of the 2017 class with a big second deal still in question is safety Marcus Williams, who is playing the 2021 season the franchise tag.
