The New Orleans Saints beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, but it was a costly result for the tight end position.
Both Adam Trautman and Nick Vannett left the game with injuries. The latest news was in regard to Vannett, who suffered a knee injury that is expected to keep him out of action for at least two weeks, according to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
As was the case with Trautman's foot/ankle injury, it's believed Vannett has escaped any major injury. Trautman is expected to be out 1-3 weeks, according to a report from Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football. Tight end Garrett Griffin didn't play on Monday due to an injury suffered in practice and was also absent on Tuesday.
While the long-term prognosis on the injuries is positive, it still leaves the Saints desperately thin at tight end just two weeks prior to the season opener against the Green Bay Packers. The lone TEs active at Tuesday's practice were converted WR Juwan Johnson and Ethan Wolf. The team cut Josh Pederson earlier in the week, and reportedly put in a claim on Kahale Warring, who had been cut from the Houston Texans. He landed with the New England Patriots, who were higher on the waiver wire, according to ESPN's Field Yates.
Johnson has had promising moments throughout each of the team's first two preseason games, catching 3 passes for 80 yards. Still, the Saints will likely be active in adding more bodies over the next few weeks. The team faces off with the Arizona Cardinals in their final preseason game on Saturday.
