Saints wide receiver Deonte Harris' legal proceedings stemming from an offseason DWI arrest appear to have reached a conclusion.
Harris was sentenced to 1 year of probation stemming from the incident that occurred in Baltimore, Maryland, according to a report from NOLA.com. The ruling is a "probation before judgement," according to the report, which doesn't amount to a conviction, Harris' official plea in the case remains "not guilty."
The probation term begins this week and runs through Nov. 8, 2022.
The Saints WR's status for the season appeared in question throughout the offseason, but no punishment was handed down for Harris or cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who was arrested in another incident. The culmination of the case could mean a suspension looms for the star returner and receiver.
Suspensions in such cases would typically be in the range of one to two games, depending on the circumstances. Should Harris be forced to miss time, the Saints would be losing their most productive receiver on the season, to go along with his return prowess. Harris' 323 yards lead the team through nine games, while his 21 catches ranks third behind Alvin Kamara (32) and Marquez Callaway 22.
The Saints next face the Tennessee Titans in Week 10.
