For retailers that survived the catastrophe that was 2020, 2021 may still be a make-or-break year. Moody’s says retailers that may not make it to 2022 include JC Penney, Sears, Party City, Rite Aid, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Ascena Retail, parent of Lane Bryant and Ann Taylor, Bed Bath & Beyond, Victoria’s Secret and Express.
Global crude oil markets have lost about a fifth of their value in 2020 as strict lockdowns paralyzed much of the global economy, but prices have rebounded strongly from their lows as governments rolled out stimulus. Today, the last trading day of 2020, crude oil is down. Oil has more than doubled from decade-lows seen in April, putting past a year that marked a brief, but first, negative price that shocked investors globally.
