Dixie Beer wants help finding new name

Deadline if Friday

Dixie Beer

Wanna help come up with a new name for Dixie Beer?

The company is enlisting public assistance in the renaming process.

The centuries-old New Orleans' brewery has started looking for a new name that the company says should embrace a more inclusive, culturally-aware and socially conscious future.

They invite locals and beer enthusiasts to suggest a new brand name.

The deadline for the public to suggest a new name is Friday, September 25.

"Community is at the heart of why we do what we do, and we thrive on the idea of our beer bringing people together. Our name must speak to the diversity of the city we call home as we encourage unity and inclusivity in New Orleans and across the country," said Jim Birch, General Manager of Dixie Brewery. "When we restored brewing production in 2019, we wanted to speak to the resiliency of New Orleans. This year, we can speak to that resiliency even further, and we're thrilled to welcome everyone to the table in our endeavor to rename Dixie."

Dixie Beer owner Gayle Benson announced in June that the name was going to change.

It came after what Benson called critical conversations about systemic racism and social justice issues that have caused immeasurable pain and oppression of Black and Brown communities.

The brewery aims to announce a new name next month with a new brand rollout set for Mardi Gras 2021.

Dixie Brewing Company was founded in New Orleans in 1907.
