Fire at Hard Rock demolition site

Thick black smoke is billowing from the Hard Rock Hotel demolition site.

NOLA Ready says the is smoke from burning roofing materials.

"Minimal concern of spread at this point," the city said in a post on Twitter. "Nearby residents & businesses should stay inside & shut off A/C units to limit smoke intake."

NOFD says in a release that seven fire vehicles responded with 22 personnel.

"According to the LA-Task Force 1 team leader, demolition contractors were in the process of cutting steel girders when sparks ignited roofing materials on one of the upper floors. Firefighters were able to extend the boom from a NOFD ladder truck to reach the fire. Seven NOFD units carrying twenty-two Fire Operations personnel are being used to bring the incident under control. Currently there are no injuries reported."
