NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Rudy Giuliani Wednesday slammed the treatment of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, comparing the sexual harassment allegations against the governor to those of former President Trump.
Cuomo has faced intense pressure to step down after Attorney General Letitia James’ report released Tuesday detailed sexual assault allegations against the governor from 11 women. President Biden, New York’s two senators and many more legislators have called for the governor’s resignation or impeachment, defending the report as thorough.
But Giuliani late Tuesday said Democrats and Republicans alike were rushing to call for the ousting of Cuomo, who has denied the findings of the investigation.
“Now we will find out who really believes in the rule of law,” tweeted Giuliani, the former New York mayor and personal attorney to Trump. “It is very disappointing that some of the right wing protectors of due process for President Donald have convicted Cuomo on a report from 3 prosecutors who up until now were trying to frame Trump.”
Giuliani went on, adding: “Cuomo may be guilty, but we used to have trials before convictions. That’s what Cuomo’s Democrat allies denied President Trump. There would be poetic justice if they did that to Cuomo, but it would be unjust, dangerous and entirely un-American.”
It was not clear as to what situation Guiliani was referencing where Trump was denied a right to trial. The former president has for years faced sexual misconduct allegations from multiple women.
“The truth of the charges against Cuomo should be determined by a trial of an impeachment (sic) and/or an indictment, not by the media,” Giuliani continued in a subsequent tweet.
“Also,” Giuliani added, “the covered up allegations of sending the elderly to death in nursing homes, rather than to available safe beds, should be tried by a jury.”
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on Tuesday pledged to wrap up the Assembly’s impeachment investigation as “quickly as possible,” stating Cuomo can “no longer remain in office.”
