Scoot: If Trump or Biden wins - would you feel like leaving America?

Are you so concerned about the future of America that if President Trump wins re-election you would leave the country?

As Election Day approaches and tensions build, the promise to leave America is once again part of the political conversation. Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has been an outspoken critic of President Trump and Tommy Lee has announced that if Trump wins re-election, he will move to a Mediterranean island. Even during the pandemic, Tommy Lee could fulfill that promise because he was born in the Mediterranean islands.

Bruce Springsteen said that if President Trump is re-elected he will consider moving to Australia. “The Boss” made the comment about leaving America in an interview with the Australian media.

Threatening to leave America is something celebrities tend to do when they are extremely passionate about their dislike for a particular candidate.

In 2016, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Snoop Dogg, Whoopie Goldberg and Bryan Cranston were among the list of celebrities claiming they would leave America if Donald Trump won. Miley Cyrus said, “I am moving if Donald Chump]is my president! I don’t say things I don’t mean.” Cher said, “If he [Donald Trump] were to be elected, I’m moving to Jupiter.” I don’t think she ever clarified if she meant the planet or the city on the eastern coast of Florida.

It does appear that all of the celebrities who were so adamant about leaving America if Donald Trump became president are still here and did not follow through on their threats to move.

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh threatened to leave America in 2010 if Obamacare passed. Limbaugh told his audience, “If this passes and it’s 5 years from now and all that stuff get implemented, I’m leaving the country.” Costa Rica was Limbaugh’s destination. I guess Limbaugh could claim that every aspect of Obamacare was not implemented, but there’s no question that Obamacare passed and has become the law of the land. It’s 2020, and Rush Limbaugh still lives in Tampa, FL.

The other celebrities who threatened to leave America if Donald Trump became president are still here as well, and the threats by Tommy Lee and Bruce Springsteen to leave the country if Trump is re-elected can only be interpreted as shallow threats based on the precedent.

It is not certain if celebrities have such a high regard for themselves that they believe their threat to leave America if a particular candidate wins will inspire their fans to vote for the other candidate because they don’t want their favorite stars to leave. Or, it could be that celebrities are trying to express how extremely important they believe it is to vote for the candidate they support.

Whichever is the case, threats to leave America over the outcome of elections never seem to lead to actually leaving the country.

No doubt, there are Americans who are so afraid of Trump winning that they would want to move to another country. And there are others who feel so threatened by a Biden presidency that they would want to leave America out of disgust for the direction of the country.

For some - there is the option of leaving the country over a political outcome, but most Americans are not in a position to make that threat. Plus - if you don’t like the outcome of an election you can either leave the country or stay here and try to change the direction in the next election.

Please vote! And don’t threaten to leave America if the other candidate wins. Stay here, and vote for change in the next election.
