Four boaters who lost power during a night fishing trip on the lake are back on fry land, thanks to a St. Tammany deputy sheriff and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Around 5:15 a.m. Thursday, Deputy Jordan Salles responded to a Coast Guard call for assistance in locating the missing boaters, and found the 24-foot Bayliner pushed up against the Hwy. 11 Bridge drawbridge tower.

With the help of a Coast Guard boat in the area, Deputy Salles secured the boat and pulled all four occupants to safety on to the bridge.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office marine division towed the boat back to harbor.

According to the boat's skipper, he took the other adult and two children out for a night fishing trip, when his boat lost power between the Hwy. 11 bridge and the railroad bridge.

"I want to thank this patrol deputy, who answered a call for help and used his law enforcement intuition and training to locate and ultimately rescue four individuals," said St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith.
