Authorities say people flying out of New Orleans Sunday and Monday should get to the airport extra early because there are not enough Transportation Security Administration employees showing up to work.

"Due to impacts from the federal government’s partial shutdown, there continues to be a shortage of TSA workers at the security checkpoint at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport," officials posted.

Since agents are not getting paid currently growing numbers have been calling in sick or quitting.

"In anticipation of a higher volume of passenger activity on Sunday, March 15 and Monday, March 16, passengers with travel scheduled on those days should arrive at least 3 hours ahead of their scheduled departure to allow plenty of time to undergo security screening."

During recent peak travel times, lines have stretched through the airport and into the parking garage.

"Wait times on Sunday and Monday may be up to 2 hours especially during peak periods, which are between 4 a.m. – 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. – 6 p.m."
