University of New Orleans students this morning received an alarming text and email.
"Campus emergency evacuation: The UNO Police Department has been made aware of a potential threat to the University of New Orleans," the message said, according to a UNO student who relayed it to WWL First News. "A mandatory evacuation of all campuses has been ordered. This is an actual emergency and not test or a drill."
The university announced at 1 p.m. that authorities lifted the evacuation order.
UNO Police tells us that they have received threats and are asking everyone to leave the campus now. Our partners at NOLA.com report a former student made threats to set a campus building on fire, and has been taken into custody.
This all happened as students, family, faculty and staff gathered at Lakefront Arena for graduation today. UNO Police said they deployed extra units to the graduation while they have evacuated the main campus.
