An 80-year-old Amite woman is dead after a crash in St. Helena Parish.
That crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday on LA 16 at McDaniel Road between Amite and Montpelier. According to state troopers, Frances Johnson was stopped at a stop sign on McDaniel Road. Troopers say when she entered the intersection, she drove her car into the path of an oncoming 18-wheeler. The truck, troopers say, hit Johnson’s driver-side door.
Johnson died at the scene. Troopers say she was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
