New Orleans mayor-elect Helena Moreno has the next three months to prepare for her new job. So what does Moreno need to do now to be successful once she occupies the mayor's office?

"She needs to have a good transition," political analyst Clancy Dubos said, noting that  Moreno's job as mayor has essentially already begun.

According to Dubos, Moreno's transition team needs to focus on setting up Moreno's mission and her vision for government. Specifically, Dubos says the transition team will be working through the upcoming holidays to identify key appointees and department heads, potential policy changes, and a possible restructuring of the mayor's office. Dubos says Moreno will take an active role in that transition.

"It's going to be very busy," Dubos said. "It's almost going to be as if she's already the mayor in terms of staying busy 24/7. I suspect she'll have very little sleep (and) no weekends."

Dubos says he expects Moreno to keep a full schedule between now and January 11 to make sure she hits the ground running as mayor.

"Her transition team is already hard at work," Dubos said. "They'll be looking at résumés. They will be screening potential candidates to fill city departments. I suspect she'll be meeting with current and future members of the city council."

Dubos says Moreno will also meet with local business leaders, community groups, and residents, with one end goal in mind.

"Unrolling her vision for the city on how to get the city functional again," Dubos said.
