Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced at the Caesars Superdome today that the College Football Playoff Championship will be played at the dome on January 24, 2028.

As an added bonus, the Sugar Bowl that year will host a CFP quarterfinal a few weeks prior to the big game.

UNO economics professor Mark Rosa says it also means money in the bank.

"Every time they have an event like that, that just gets national or even international attention, it just brings in a lot of people. People spend a lot of money," he said. "Using taxis, renting cars, using Ubers to get around, in many occasions. And of course they have to eat, and then they have to enjoy, and then they want to go see things."

It will the first time the collegiate champion will be crowned at the Superdome since LSU won the 2019 season.

The city just hosted the Super Bowl, after the state of Louisiana and the New Orleans Saints spent a half a billion dollars on major renovations to the Superdome.
