Saturday is President Donald Trump's 79th birthday. It's also the day the president planned a military parade in the nation's capital -- that one in honor of the U.S. Army's 250th birthday. And there will also be protests across the nation, including some in the New Orleans area.
There will be a parade protesting the president and his policies Saturday morning in Faubourg Marigny. It is set to start at 9 a.m. at Mandeville and Decatur streets.
There's also one set for Covington, starting at 11 a.m. at the Old Parish Courthouse, then marching to Bogue Falaya Wayside Park at 1 p.m.
Covington Police Deputy Chief Kevin Collins says they don't expect any problems, and officers will be on the scene.
"We're going to have officers present in and around the protest area to insure everyone's safety, everyone that's involved," said Collins. "Our role, honestly, is just to maintain peace, respond quickly to any disturbances, and ensure that the demonstration remains nonviolent and orderly."
Chief Collins says the demonstrators even have the required permits.
