Blue Angels to soar above New Orleans Air Show

Blue Angels to soar above New Orleans Air Show

The New Orleans Air Show returns to Belle Chasse this weekend, and it's a chance to see your tax dollars doing some pretty awesome things.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team is the headline attraction, as the air show returns after a five-year absence. Andrew Thomas, public affairs officer for NAS-JRB Belle Chasse, says the other branches of the service will be well-represented.

"We have an F-16 Air Force Viper demo team, and we have the VFA-204, which is our local F-18 squadron, they'll be in the air show, and also the Louisiana Air National Guard in their F-15 Eagles," he said. "We also have the Black Dagger, it's the Special Forces parachute demonstration team."

The Marine Corps will have one of their attack helicopters on display, and there will also be a display of Air Force and Navy F-35 stealth fighters.

Gates open at 8:00 a.m. and the show begins at 10 o'clock.

Base officials are asking people not to use the main gate, and instead enter using the gates on Barriere Road or the Blue Gate Road entrance off Hwy. 23, about a mile south of the main gate.
