The man killed by a Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Deputy on Sunday is the brother of a high-ranking State Police commander.
Derrick Kittling, shot during a confrontation with a Rapides deputy Sunday, was declared dead in Alexandria.
A statement from the LSP describes a confrontation over a Taser weapon which lead to the shooting.
In a follow up by the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, it was learned Kittling is in fact the brother of Lt. Col. Kenny Van Buren, the deputy superintendent of the Bureau of Investigations for LSP. Van Buren is a 31-year veteran of the department.
LSP will run the investigation into the killing. But Van Buren will not be a part of the process.
