Someone broke into Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto's vehicle overnight in Metairie and stole his gun.
NOLA.com reports the sheriff's vehicle was one of several hit in a rash of car burglaries overnight in central Metairie.
A sheriff's department says they don't believe the burglar or burglars were targeting the sheriff.
The sheriff's office did not say whether the vehicle was unlocked, but said no broken glass was found.
