If you’ve been on Twitter this morning, you’ve certainly seen the gloom and doom. Hashtag “RIP Twitter” is the top trend worldwide, as users wrote what they feared might be their last posts. They were reacting to dire news emanating from inside Twitter: scores of remaining employees at the social media company appeared to reject owner Elon Musk’s 5 p.m. ultimatum yesterday that they commit to working “long hours at high intensity” in order to stay. Hundreds appeared to have called it quits, and soon after, Twitter said it was temporarily closing its office buildings effective immediately.

Large portions of the country may face blackouts and other energy emergencies during bouts of extreme cold this winter as coal and natural gas supplies tighten. The North American Electric Reliability Council says the electric grids at most risk of supply shortfalls are in Texas, the central U.S.
system stretching from the Great Lakes to Louisiana, New England and the Carolinas.


Futures are up after stocks closed slightly lower yesterday. The Dow Industrials slipped 7, the NASDAQ fell 38 and the S&P 500 was down 12.
