New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is asking the federal court for the Eastern District of Louisiana for permission to leave the country, WWL-TV reports.
According to the report, the U.S. Attorney's office in New Orleans did not object to Cantrell's request to travel to Iceland from Oct. 7 to Oct. 13 on a family vacation.
Cantrell is under federal criminal indictment on charges she and her former NOPD bodyguard, Jeffrey Vappie, lied in order to make it look like Vappie was on official business when accompanying her on trips to places like Martha's Vineyard, Napa valley, and Scotland. Prosecutor say Vappie's business with the mayor on those trips was not business, but was part of a personal, intimate affair the two were having.
Cantrell and Vappie deny having an affair.
At her arraignment last week, the court ordered Cantrell to seek permission before taking any trips out of the country.
