If you use the Chalmette Ferry as part of your commute, you’ll need to find an alternate route after state officials deemed the bridge leading to that ferry to be unsafe.
The ferry will be closed until further notice because the Louisiana Department of Transportation has shut down the Chalmette Paris Road Bridge. On Monday, DOTD inspectors found “structural deficiencies” on the bridge. DOTD crews continue to assess the extent of the bridge’s damage.
DOTD and Regional Transit Authority officials will continue to provide updates about the bridge and the ferry as they become available.
