A short time later he notified the media that someone was dead as a result of the shooting.
"The signal has been changed to a Homicide by shooting."
He identified the victim only as an unidentified adult female.

New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick released the following statement regarding the recent incidents shortly before the killing:
“Within the last 24 hours six individuals were victims of senseless acts of violence that occurred in different areas of our city. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and all those affected. During the holiday season, cities across the country experience an unfortunate uptick in crime. Our dedicated detectives are aggressively investigating the incidents, gathering information to identify and apprehend those responsible. At this time, the incidents do not seem to be related.
“The NOPD is actively working to curb such violence, strategically deploying officers based on intelligence data and analytics. Officers are on patrol throughout the neighborhoods of the city. Last night, our Bourbon Street Promenade Officers on patrol were in position to act swiftly after hearing shots fired at Dauphine and Toulouse and respond within minutes.
“NOPD is steadfast in its commitment to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors. This year, violent crime is down 24% and includes 69 less murders compared to the same period last year.
“This violence is going to take our entire community working together to stop. The men and women of the NOPD value your partnership and are proud to serve and protect the City of New Orleans.”
“Please have a wonderful and safe Holiday and always be aware of your surroundings. And be assured that we are here to serve you.”
