From cold snap to Christmas, will the holiday weather be naughty or nice?

After a recent blast of cold air, warmer temperatures are settling back into southern Louisiana; a welcome relief for many.

But with Christmas just around the corner, attention is already turning to what the holiday forecast might bring.

According to the National Weather Service, the frigid conditions won’t stick around much longer. Hats and scarves can likely be tucked away for the rest of the week as temperatures rebound and the weather wheel keeps turning.
Still, it’s next week that has people asking the big question: will Christmas be cold or mild?

Hannah Lisney with the National Weather Service says while it’s still a bit early to lock in exact conditions, early indications point to a relatively pleasant holiday.

“It’s a little early to call anything concrete,” Lisney says, “but right now, Christmas is shaping up to be on the milder side.”

And after earlier this year brought a rare snow event to New Orleans, some are wondering if lightning could strike twice. Lisney says while that storm was memorable, another major snow event isn’t something forecasters see on the immediate horizon.

"If I were to bet, I'd bet against it, but never say never!"

For now, residents can enjoy the warmer stretch ahead and keep an eye on updated forecasts as Christmas draws closer; hoping the weather stays more nice than naughty.
