The city of New Orleans today announced an agreement with developers to bring the Six Flags amusement park site in New Orleans East back into commerce.

Businessman Troy Henry proposed the "Bayou Phoenix" project to the city in 2021. It involves a warehouse and logistics hub, and a "family education" center focused on STEM.

"The Bayou Phoenix Team is excited to consummate this long-awaited agreement," said Henry. "I believe that this project will be transformational for the entire region."

"The City of New Orleans continues to invest our resources into this project that we believe will successfully return the site to commerce," said New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. "We will not waver in our commitment to a development project that is transparent, accountable and in the best interest and of the utmost benefit of our community."

More needs to happen before work on the site can begin. A public forum on the project is being planned, and Bayou Phoenix must present its master plan to the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority for approval.

NOLA.com reports the project could be completed by the end of 2026.
