With the threat of some rain and thunderstorms, officials have been assessing the status of tonight's parades.

"The City of New Orleans, along with the National Weather Service (NWS), is closely monitoring the potential weather impacts for tonight’s parades," according to a news release. "Based on the current forecast models and weather tracking, all Thursday evening parades will roll at their scheduled time and on their scheduled routes."

Officials say the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will continue to monitor the situation.

"The City’s number one priority is ensuring the safety of krewe members and of the public during tonight’s parades."

Authorities say the primary weather concerns for postponing any scheduled parades would be high winds and lightning.  For now, they say both have low chances of occurring during the processions.

"Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout most the afternoon today ahead of an advancing cold front. Light to moderate rain is possible, so the City is asking krewe members and the parade goers to take any necessary precautions before heading to the parade route."

The city advises everyone to:

-Stay weather aware – keep an eye on local news forecasts and sign up for Mardi Gras updates from the City by texting “MARDIGRAS” to 77295
-Be prepared – bring rain gear and layers as temperatures will drop as the rain rolls through
-If you witness lightning along the parade route, seek shelter by getting inside a home, building or car
