During a visit to the southwest border on Friday, Louisiana Congressman Troy Carter and members of the Homeland Security Committee got a firsthand look at the state of the border and immigrants looking for asylum.
Following the event Carter took the opportunity to call for comprehensive immigration reform to fix the broken system currently in place at the border.
"We need comprehensive immigration reform to fix our broken system and save lives. I was grateful for the opportunity to visit Texas and learn first-hand from professionals who are in the thick of this crisis," Carter said. "Immigration rights are human rights! Let's deliver them a pathway for citizenship."
