A child is dead after an apparent murder-suicide attempt in Kenner.
Police announced today that they found the body of a three-year-old boy inside the home in the 800 block of 27th Street in Kenner Wednesday night. The apparent shooter was in the driveway.
“Officers arrived on scene and found Melvin McClinton Sr., 39, lying in the driveway of the residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Officers then entered the home and found a 3-year-old... in a bedroom, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound,” Captain Michael Cunningham said.
Investigators say McClinton was in a fight with the little boy's mother, grabbed a gun, killed his three-year-old son, fled the residence, and fired a bullet into his own head.
Police say McClinton is in critical condition.
The alleged shooter's 18-year-old son, Melvin McClinton Jr. died earlier this month in a shooting on 42nd Street in Kenner.
McClinton Sr. was reportedly distraught and struggling with his other son's death.
