Cops shoot alleged car thief in Old Metairie

Sheriff's deputies shot a suspect overnight on Metairie Road.

"The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving an armed individual fleeing in a stolen vehicle that ended in a deputy-involved shooting," Captain Jason Rivarde said in an email. "Two suspects have been taken into custody; one is not injured, the other suffered crash-related injuries and gunshot wounds."

He says it started around 2:00am when deputies spotted a stolen car with two people inside at  the intersection of Orpheum and Avenue E and gave chase.

"The pursuit only lasted about half a mile and ended with the suspect crashing the car.  Detectives say the driver got out with a gun in his hand, and deputies shot him.  He is in stable condition. Another suspect ran away, and was caught."

Rivarde says the crash was near the intersection of Metairie Rd. and Friedrichs Ave.
