New Orleans Police opened fire Wednesday night on a suspect they say crashed into several police cars in the St. Claude neighborhood.
"The NOPD is investigating an officer use-of-force incident that occured this evening," Senior Public Information Officer Aaron Looney said in an email.
He says it happened in the 1200 block of Gallier Street.
"Initial reports show officers were attempting to apprehend a driver who had allegedly struck multiple police vehicles. During this incident, officers reportedly discharged their service weapons."
Looney reported that none of the bullets hit anyone.
"No gunfire-related injuries were reported."
After a brief standoff, officers arrested the man.
"The perpetrator - an adult male - was apprehended and transported to a local medical facility via EMS for further evaluation."
