The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating after deputies shot a motorist in Marrero on Wednesday afternoon.
It happened in the 7300 block of Westbank Expressway in Marrero around 2:15 p.m., the sheriff's office said.
According to investigators, deputies conducted a suspicious vehicle stop on a 2001 Isuzu SUV. The driver, whom the sheriff's office says is a 62-year-old woman from Lafitte, exited the vehicle with what appeared to be a firearm.
"The suspect exited her vehicle and pointed the weapon at multiple deputies positioned in different locations around her vehicle," said Capt. Jason Rivarde of JPSO. "As she aimed at one of the deputies, that deputy and one other fired at her multiple times. After she was struck by gunfire in several parts of her body, she dropped the weapon and fell to the ground."
Once out of the hospital, the suspect will be booked with multiple counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and a number of other charges, authorities said.
