The St. Tammany Parish coroner confirms that a Mandeville police officer shot and killed a murder suspect with a single bullet moments after that suspect shot a woman multiple times.
According to Dr. Christopher Tape, David Vang died of a single gunshot wound, while Laina Lee died of multiple wounds. Tape ruled both deaths a homicide, but he noted that the clinical definition of "homicide" differs from its legal definition.
St. Tammany Parish sheriff's deputies say Vang shot Lee after she ran out of a house when they arrived to investigate a domestic dispute. A Mandeville officer unsuccessfully tried to subdue Vang with a stun gun. Vang then pointed a gun at the officer. That's when, deputies say, a backup officer arrived and shot Vang, killing him.
Lee later died at a hospital.
No sheriff's deputies were injured.
The case remains under investigation.
