As New Orleans is moving ahead with plans to get streetlights repaired, some on the city council say it's about time.
"We're getting close to a three year mark on an interstate," said New Orleans City Councilman Joe Giarrusso. "It doesn't matter if it's New Orleans East or Mid City or anywhere else, on interstates and bus routes and schools, anything longer than six months is too long."
Public works officials say before the end of the month, they'll begin a comprehensive assessment of street light status.
Earlier this year, the New Orleans City Council directed the Department of Public Works to "take all steps necessary, including brining in a third party, to create a master plan for city lighting, using other successful cities as a blueprint."
