If you're planning to boil crawfish during the Easter weekend, here's some good news: supplies are up, and prices are down.
"They're more affordable, and they're available, and the size is nicer," Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain told WWL's Tommy Tucker. "You're looking at $4.50 (to) $4.75 per pound."
Strain credits recent weather conditions for helping the state's crawfish crop grow more plentiful and for allowing crawfish grow larger.
"They're getting bigger, so if you look at these $4.75 (per-pound crawfish), they're the nice--really nice--crawfish," Strain said.
Strain says crawfish prices have jumped because because crawfish lovers are taking advantage of those increased supplies during the Easter weekend. However, Strain says those prices should drop soon.
"They're spiking a little bit. As you can imagine, demand went up for Good Friday," Strain said. "The price will continue, probably, to go down a little bit over the next two weeks."
