By the close of qualifying Thursday for Louisiana's October elections, no one had qualified to run against Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng. That means she has automatically been reelected to a second term.

Several other Jefferson Parish incumbents drew no opposition as well. Sheriff Joe Lopinto, Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich, Assessor Tom Capella, and Clerk of Court Jon Gegenheimer are also unopposed.

Meanwhile, the Jefferson Parish Council may be in for a shakeup, with Dominick Impastato term-limited out of his 4th District seat and running against incumbent at-large Councilman Scott Walker, and term0limited 5th District Councilmember Jennifer Van Vrancken challenging incumbent at-large member Ricky Templet.

Statewide, Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain was automatically reelected when no one qualified to run against him.
