Cops say impairment is suspected in a fatal head-on Tangipahoa Parish crash.
"This morning, shortly before 5:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 445 near Gateway Drive," Trooper William Huggins said in a news release.
He says 24-year-old Austin Harper of Loranger died.
"The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as 31-year-old Justin Scully of Loranger was northbound on LA Hwy 445."
Harper was driving southbound on LA Hwy 445.
The trooper says preliminary findings showed Scully crossed the centerline and hit Harper's vehicle.
"Harper was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene."
Scully was wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious injuries.
"He was transported to a local hospital. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash on the part of Scully. A toxicology sample was obtained from Scully and will be submitted for analysis."
